Kenneth is a young Ugandan whose parents are both clergy.  In Uganda clergy very rarely get any pay, and times are difficult for them and for the family.

Kenneth is a very kind young man who plays music for the services and helps the youngsters.  He has an unfortunately eye caste which it was never possible to deal with when he was young.

He has now been offered a place at university, but the family can’t afford to pay for this.  I wonder if you could help with this?   If one or two people could share the cost it would make life easier.   Kenneth’s future is worth your contribution, however small.  Please contact ann.potts@virgin.net

Please can anyone help Eunice go to university?

Eunice is the second of John and Grace Musaasizi ‘s thee children. She has done very well in her A levels and may possibly get one of the very rare government grants for fees to do a degree in Business Administration.
However she would still need another £600 per year to pay for her board and lodging at the university.

Her father is the Chair of the Ugandan Committee and her mother looks after all the needs of all our 162 sponsored children.
John is an Anglican Clergyman with a large parish to care for, but as is always the case in Uganda, he has no income from the Church and relies on the generosity of his impoverished parishioners, which will not stretch to university fees. It would be great if anyone or a group of people could help out this family who work ceaselessly for others.

Can you help David?

David is a young Ugandan who has had no parental support for at least the last four years since we have known him. He has worked hard at school and in the holidays he grows vegetables to help with his funding. He has achieved good “A” levels but now has no sponsor to help send him to University. Can you help this boy? If one or two people could share the cost it would make life easier. David’s future is worth your contribution, however small.

“…….Severe hunger has struct Northern Uganda seriously and about 15 people mostly children have died due to starvation in the districts of Gulu and Amuru. Malnutrition and starvation is very high among children.

Hywel James, of St. John the Baptist C of E Church in Windlesham, Surrey is taking part in  L’Etape du Tour to raise money for Mityana.

Every year the enthusiastic amateurs are given the chance to have a go at one of the toughest stages of that year’s Tour de France.  Like the professionals they get closed roads and therefore the chance to kid themselves they are proper cyclists.  This year, on Monday 20^th July, they are racing what has been called the toughest stage of this year’s Tour de France, which the professionals will do as their penultimate stage on Saturday 25 July.

The stage is from Montelimar (home of the world’s finest nougat) to the summit of Mont Ventoux at over 1900m in altitude.  This is a special stage for Hywel and for many British cyclists as the great British cyclist Tommy Simpson died whilst climbing the Mont Ventoux in the 1967 Tour de France.

What keeps Hywel going when the going gets tough is knowing there is a greater purpose to his endeavour and that is why he likes to do these events as a way of raising money for charity.  He is particularly guided to support African charities as he has seen from previous events how seemingly small amounts raised here can have such a huge impact in Africa.

“In Mityana I have come across two GRANDMOTHERS WHO BADLY NEED HELP. In both cases all their children have died (mainly from AIDS) and they are trying to bring up the kids single-handed with no income or resources. One of them has about ten grand-children and can’t afford food or school fees, The house of the other grand-mother was recently burnt down, and she has no accommodation. Is there anybody who can help us with a small monthly donation for them? “

Those who planted in the January rains which were out of season have crops drying in the fields. So this season my gardens are empty except for a tiny garden of beans which are struggling with the hot sun…..”
